Shocksound Promotions has been in business for five years, and owner Greg Burke a.k.a. DJ Riq has had one focus for his company. "Our goal is to bridge the gap between college/underground radio and the mainstream," explains Burke. 

His company wasn't intended to focus on promotion. According to Burke, "Shocksound was actually supposed to be a DJ crew that I started, and the partner I started out with backed out on the deal. We took the name and used it for a promotion company, so basically Shocksound was supposed to be everything you heard was a good, shocking sound. Now you have all the Duck Down stuff which came back out of nowhere, and it was a good shock to the DJ community." 

Burke works with both commercial and non-commercial DJs, and notices the differences between the two as well as an unfortunate similarity. "Some people feel like they only want to stay in their corner, and they don't want to hear anything else, and that's on both sides of the fence—college and commercial. There are a few guys that are open to hear 'A Bay Bay' and a Sean Price track that put balance in the game. Some people are followers and they're waiting for everybody else to make the change first."
